Springfield, MA; a daughter, Laurie Judd and her husband Norman of Coto De Caza, CA; four grandchildren, Butch Marquis and his wife Michelle, Nicole Roth and her husband Scott, Katharine Galway and her fiancée Tarny Joyal , and Brian Judd; five great grandchildren, Ariel, Bridgette, and Veronica Marquis, Kaila and Corryn Roth; and several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by two brothers and three sisters, James and Henry Galway, Agnes Galway, Anne Eckstrom, and Claire Brophy.

Robert R. Galway, 86, of Bristol, loving husband of the late Claire (Sheldon) Galway died on Wednesday (July 14, 2010) at Bay State Medical Center in Springfield, MA. Mr. Galway was born in Thomaston on February 11, 1924 and was the son of the late Harry and Clara (Haderer) Galway. A Bristol resident for more than seventy years , he attended local schools, and had a long career as a machinist with Bristol Instrument Gears retiring in 2005 at the age of 81. He had served in the Army, 75 TH Infantry Division during World War II, attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant and receiving the Bronze Star Medal, Victory Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. He was an avid basketball player; he played for the Bristol Tramps and the New Britain Industrial League. Robert continued playing basketball at The Bristol Boys Club with the Oilers, well into his mid-forties. He had many good friends and teammates especially: Hawk, Babe and Buzz. Mr. Galway is survived a son Shaun Galway and his wife, Ellen of W. Springfield, MA; a daughter, Laurie Judd and her husband Norman of Coto De Caza, CA; four grandchildren, Butch Marquis and his wife Michelle, Nicole Roth and her husband Scott, Katharine Galway and her fiancée Tarny Joyal , and Brian Judd; five great grandchildren, Ariel, Bridgette, and Veronica Marquis, Kaila and Corryn Roth; and several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by two brothers and three sisters, James and Henry Galway, Agnes Galway, Anne Eckstrom, and Claire Brophy. Funeral services will be held on Saturday (July 17, 2010) at 10 AM at Funk Funeral Home, 35 Bellevue Ave., Bristol. Burial with military honors will follow at Peacedale Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Friday between 4 and 7 PM.
